Project Nero - Computation Fluid Dynamics

Our Latest Projects Content Repository

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is widely regarded as one of the most intense High Performance Compute workloads (HPC). Project Cerberus was designed for a multitude of next-generation workloads including HPC.

Most companies are still running CFD simulations on CPU only. Project Nero utilises Nutanix’s Hyper-visor and Software Defined Storage as well as NVIDIA A40s to supercharge performance, all whilst running in an Immersion Cooled environment. This project was another first in the world for 2024 which we couldn’t have completed without GRC & CADFEM UK.

GRC provided us with a PhD in CFD on their staff who helped us prepare the mesh file and data for the Ansys Fluent simulation. CADFEM provided us with a 30-day license for Ansys Fluent Enterprise with 3x HPC packs. We created a single virtual machine (64x cores / 128GB memory) with GPU passthrough to a single A40. We ran an Immersion based simulation which calculated fluid flow from the dielectric fluid through the heatsink of a CPU located in a Dell R640 (hosted by a GRC micro tank).
