Project Cerberus – Unreal Engine 5

Our Latest Projects Content Repository

CodeZero and NYX VX (our sister company) have combined to deploy the worlds leading gaming engine, Unreal Engine (UE5) onto the immersion server cluster which was funded by Intel and Dell. We have deployed UE5 using an Ubuntu Linux virtual machine and pinned a single virtual machine to a single NVIDIA A40 GPU. A40s are perfect for rendering and visualisation which means it is an ideal platform to run things such as VDI, Rendering and Visualisation (CAD, Revit etc).

We decided to run 4x workloads that would showcase the power of GPUs running in Immersion utilising our bespoke server design. For the software stack, we have continued to use our delivery pipeline using CER (CodeZero Experiment Repository), Ansible, Terraform, Docker and EKS-A / NKE (Nutanix Kubernetes Engine). To deliver the hypervisor and storage fabric we have deployed Nutanix Acropolis and Acropolis Distributed Storage Fabric.

As with all of our workload testing, we captured all of the performance and utilisation metrics, including GPU power draw and GPU temperature. We also captured the tank temperature metrics for coolant in, water in, water out and rack temperature via GRC Systems Manager. All of these metrics are pushed into Grafana for data visualisation.
The 4x workloads that we ran consist of:

  • An immersive VR experience on Immersion cooling that NYX VX built for bp Castrol.
  • Electric Dreams – An Unreal Engine 5 version release demo.
  • A Mountain of One – A 3D/VR experience built by NYX VX.
  • Once in a Blue Moon – A 3D/VR experience built by NYX VX.
