Traditional air cooled racks are struggling to cope with the demands of next generation 1000w TDP (Thermal Design Power) CPUs,GPUs and the associated workloads that they have been designed for. Cold isle racks and rear door cooling can help traditional data centres provide more than 10kW in a 42u rack, but these are inefficient cooling methods and come with additional costs.
Immersion Cooling has some barriers to entry as you need a heat rejection system that allows a user to capture / reject the waste heat, there is some plumbing involved, chilled water loops and a few other considerations.
The benefits however, far outweigh the initial friction and for data centres most of the required infrastructure is already in place.
